The book is about honeybees and beekeeping.

The answer to this question is very simple: it is about honeybees and beekeeping, about the instincts governing the activity of a bee colony at different stages of its development, about the ways to master these instincts and how to use them in practical beekeeping.

The life of bees is extremely interesting and very instructive. People have been dealing with these insects for many millennia. And wherever one lives, be that in a quiet little village or a large noisy city, if one loves nature and can appreciate its beauty, these wonderful and amazing insects will by all means enchant you. If you by chance happen to be amidst a fruit garden in spring, or in an old linden park in summer, or in some flowering meadow in full bloom, or likewise on the edge of a wood, do look at the flowers, at least for a short minute, to enjoy thoroughly the wide variety of their colors and forms. You are sure to see bees flying from flower to flower, to hear the monotonous buzzing of these never-tiring toilers.

In writing this book, we based ourselves on the biology of bees in order to explain, as best as possible, the physiological state of the bee colony at different stages of its evolution and, with regards to these stages, to offer the reader certain technological methods for managing the bees’ instincts and for controlling them. We tried to do our level best to substantiate the feasibility of the techniques we discuss. It is also our sincere hope that, enriched by his own personal experience and knowledge, and having creatively reconsidered his approach both in theory and in practice to the bees and beekeeping, the reader will happily proceed further in this marvelous undertaking.

About the book

Reasonable utilization of modern computer techniques is out of the question without skillful application of approximate and numerical analysis, which explains the remarkable growth of interest in the methods of approximate calculation.

Computational mathematics as a teaching discipline has an increasing place in the syllabuses of engineering and economics faculties and colleges, and with it, the demand for textbooks in this discipline has grown. A particularly acute need for manuals on solving problems in computational mathematics is felt. The present book is an attempt to provide such a manual.

The book has the following structure: each section begins with a brief theoretical introduction on setting the problem, giving working formulas, computational schemes, estimates of error, and a comparison of different methods from the angle of their laboriousness, their attainable degree of accuracy, and the convenience of solving them on a computer. There follows a detailed solution of model problems illustrating the appropriate algorithms. At the end of the section, problems for independent practice are suggested. Answers are given for most of these problems.

For a better understanding of the essence of the matter, most of the problems for which solutions are provided have been selected so that the computations will not be especially cumbersome. It is suggested that desk computers should be used in the initial stage of instruction and for group study.

The book is intended primarily for engineering students but may also prove useful for economics students, graduate engineers, and postgraduate students and scientific workers in the applied sciences. The material, we would emphasize, does not go beyond the limits of the syllabus in computational mathematics.

The authors take this opportunity to express their deep gratitude to Kh.L. Smolitsky and I.M. Stesin for reading the manuscript. Their advice and remarks helped to improve the book. We also sincerely thank L.Z. Rumshisky for editing the whole work and for his part in the writing of chapters one and six. We are aware that the work as it stands is not free of error, the more so that it is the first teaching manual of this kind published in our country. वसिली अलेक्झांड्रोविच सुखोमलिंस्की (1918-1970) यांनी आपल्या अल्प आयुष्यातील पस्तीस वर्षे मुलांच्या संगोपनासाठी आणि शिक्षणासाठी समर्पित केली.  ते वीस-नऊ वर्षे युक्रेनच्या पावलीश गावातील एका शाळेचे संचालक होते, जे मोठ्या शहरांपासून दूर होते.

The study serves as a continuation of the research on controlling learning processes introduced in “Theoretical Problems of Programmed Instruction.” The previous work focused on analyzing the principles of a general control theory necessary for designing programmed instruction procedures. In contrast, this study delves into psychological learning theories to elucidate the specific principles governing human learning processes.

The current research investigates three major theoretical approaches: the stage-by-stage development of mental actions, behaviorism, and the associationist-conditioned reflexes theory. Emphasis is placed on evaluating these theories to establish connections between cybernetics and the control of learning processes.

This selection of theories reflects the dominant approaches in psychological science that are applied in the context of programmed instruction. The study evaluates these psychological theories and their implications for guiding the learning process.

The first chapter links the study to previous work and introduces the cybernetic concepts necessary for understanding the programming of knowledge assimilation processes. The authors acknowledge the incompleteness of their proposed conception of programmed instruction and the contentious nature of some propositions. Nonetheless, they hope this work will contribute constructively by emphasizing the significance of psychological learning theories in programmed instruction.

The intended audience includes specialists in instruction theory, practitioners interested in programmed instruction, and individuals aiming to incorporate psychology and pedagogy achievements into the teaching-learning process. It may also serve as a resource for post-graduate students studying the foundational aspects of teaching-learning processes and psychology students taking courses in educational psychology.

This is a collection of their letters and documents written in the last minutes of their lives-in a Gestapo cell, a concentration camp or in the heat of battle. Here is a passionate call for triumph over fascism and world reaction, an appeal to those who survived to carry on the fight for mankind’s future happi­ness, for eternal peace among all men.
These words of farewell written by Soviet partisans, under­ ground fighters, soldiers, girls and boys driven into captivity, give an exceptionally penetrating insight into the Soviet character—the moral integrity, faith in victory, hatred for the foe and fervent patriotism.
