Modern Achievements of Cosmonautics – Petrov et al.

In this post, we will see the book Modern Achievements Of Cosmonautics by B. Petrov; K. Bushuyev; A. Koval’; A. Vinogradov; S. Sokolov; K. Kondrat’yev; A. Nikolayev; V. Sevast’yanov; G. Narimanov; N.Pisarenko; A. Prokhorov; B. Shteynshleyger.

About the book

Glorious pages in the heroic annals of the conquest of space have been written in the past year, by the flights of the Soviet unmanned spacecraft Luna-21, which delivered Lunakhod-2 to the sur face of our natural satellite, and the Prognoz, Kosmos and other series of earth satellites. Working consultations are continuing, on conduct of the important international experiment of docking the Soyuz and Apollo spacecraft in 1975.
The collection, compiled mainly from materials published in the central press, tells of these achievements. The commentaries of well-known Soviet scientists and engineers acquaint the readers with an extensive group of problems.

Measurement of Pulse Distortion in Digital Information Transmission – Brusilovskii

In this post, we will see the book Measurement Of Pulse Distribution In Digital Information Transmission by K. A. Brusillovskii.

About the book

This book, which should be regarded as an introduction to the extensive field of digital data transm ission quality m easurem ents, is intended to partially fill this gap. It deals with a selection of topics pertaining, first,
to some statistical features of distortion and error distributions in communication channels (mainly wires) and, second, to the design of appropriate
measuring instrum ents and their components. It is an outgrowth of the original research in which I and my co-workers have been engaged since 1958.
The book is divided into seven chapters. The first three chapters briefly discuss the criteria for the evaluation of noise proof features of communication channels and the elements of the statistical theory of signals, noises, distortions, and errors in digital data transmission. Some statistical error models encountered in the analysis of transmission over telephone lines are considered.
Chapter Four deals with the fundamental properties of test signals and the functional principles of test signal generators.
Chapters Five and Six discuss analog and digital distortion meters
and various error and distortion distribution analyzers. Because of space limitations, only those instruments are described which have been developed under my direction or with my active participation. Analyzers constitute an exception to this rule, because of their great significance
as the measuring instrument of the future in digital data transmission.
In distinction from the conventional testing equipment, the instruments described in this book are all built on the contemporary principle of non-contact solid-state switching elements, using semiconductor triodes (transistors) and ferrites.
In the concluding chapter various questions related to the optimum
design of a digital indicator register and a transistorized output relay are discussed. Again because of space limitations we had to omit descriptions of other component elements, discussion of the telegraph distortion terminology, instrumental errors, methods of reduction of experimental findings, and an analysis of the actual results obtained with the various testers described in the book. These topics, as well as descriptions of other similar instruments are covered by the references listed at the end of the book.

Fifty Years of Soviet Aircraft Construction – Yakovlev

In this post, we will see the book Fifty Years Of Soviet Aircraft Cosntruction
by A. S. Yakovlev.

About the book

This brief outline of the development of aircraft construction in the Soviet Union during the fifty years of Soviet power does not claim to be a comprehensive and profound analysis of the building up of the Soviet aircraft industry.
The author assumed a more limited task: to describe the main stages
in the progress of aircraft construction by showing the technical growth of scientific and design thinking of Soviet designers from the October Revolution to the present.

The book was translated from Russian by E. Vilim under Israel Program for Scientific Translations was published in 1970 by NASA Technical Translations.

New Variational Methods in Flight Dynamics – Krotov, Bukreev, Gurman

In this post, we will see the book New Variational Methods In Flight Dynamics by V. F. Krotov; V. Z. Burkeev ; V. I. Gurman.

About the book

The present volume deals with variational methods for the optimization of motion of aircraft and other objects often encountered in modern technology. The development of aeronautics and astronautics progres sively focuses ever increasing attention on the determination of optimum flight programs characterized by minimum time, minimum fuel consumption, maximum range, minimum cost, etc. Numerous publications which appeared in the USSR and in the West during the last 20—25 years deal with various aspects of this optimization problem. The leading contributions were made by I. V. Ostoslavskii, D. E. Okhotsimskii, A. A. Kosmodem’ yanskii, and A. Miele. Their work played an important role in the development of controlled flight mechanics; they were also the first to come face to face with the fundamental difficulties that to this date plague us in the*solution of modern optimal problems. These difficulties are a result of the complex
and varied conditions that must be taken into consideration when formulating and solving the various problems.

The monograph presents a systematic review of the authors’ results obtained over a number of years.
The Supplement at the end of the book is fundamentally different from the earlier chapters. It will be of interest to readers who wish to acquaint themselves with the basic problems of variational calculus and with the fundamental ideas that served as a point of departure for this monograph. The Supplement also contains a useful solution of the problem of maximum-range horizontal flight of an aircraft.

Moscow – Tourist Guide

In this post, we will see the book Moscow – Tourist Guide.

About the book

Visitors to Moscow fall under the spell of its spacious squares and prospects, its numerous boulevards and embankments, picturesque by-streets and parks. And there are also the Muscovites, industrious, energetic and cordial folk who have made the city what it is today and who are determined to make it the fine city they need and want for the morrow.
Realizing that tourists may have only a very short time at their disposal – occasion ally just one or two days—this booklet has been written to make a point of “the most interesting sights.” It starts off with a general picture of Moscow and then concentrates on the city’s districts with different Metro (subway) stations as the starting points.
If, as you read these pages, you come to have a fuller appreciation of the capital’s great heritage, where history has been care fully preserved and is in the making, you, too, will risk leaving a bit of your heart here.
