Cryochemistry by G. B. Sergeev; V. A. Batyuk

This is the first Soviet monograph on the cryochemistry and related subjects. Written by leading Soviet authorities in the field, it covers low-temperature homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions involving gases and liquids, experimental apparatus and techniques, radical and ion reactions in frozen solid, low-temperature polymerisation, chain reactions, spontaneous low-temperature reactions, kinetic models for cryogenic chemical reactions in the solid phase, reactions in multi-component frozen systems, biochemical reactions at sub-zero and low temperatures, and applications of low temperatures in science and technology. The book will be of interest to those concerned with cryochemistry and cryogenics of all levels of sophistication.

Professor Gleb B. Sergeev, D.Sc., a leading Soviet authority on chemical kinetics, is a disciple and follower of N. N. Semenov, a Nobel Prize Laureate. His scientific interests lie basically in the field of chemical kinetics and low-temperature chemistry. He has penned over 200 publications on chemical kinetics and physical chemistry. At present, he is deputy dean of the Chemical Department at Moscow University. In 1976, he was awarded the Lomonosov Prize for his work in cryochemistry.

Vladimir A. Batyuk, Cand.Sc., is a senior research worker at the Chemical Department, Moscow University. He is mainly interested in chemical and biochemical reactions at low temperatures. He has published over 80 papers on the subject. In 1978–79, he worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology within the framework of a USSR-US scientific exchange program.
