The aim of this textbook is to provide a practical approach to the subject matter. A coherent step-by-step description of the medical examination of organs is presented, allowing students to closely follow and master the techniques. The endoscopic picture, its interpretation, and the complete diagnostic picture of diseases are detailed. Methods of local and general therapy have been given major emphasis.

Review questions and problems (case studies) are included at the end of each section to help students consolidate the material.

The textbook also includes over 80 black-and-white and colour illustrations that have been carefully chosen and limited in number due to its concise format.

In brief, the material covered is organised as follows:
First, the essentials of clinical anatomy and physiology are explained, followed by methods of examination of the ear, nose, and throat. Next, the general principles of therapy and nursing are given, followed by descriptions of the nosological types of disorders. After this, a discussion on the establishment of diagnosis is presented, and the treatment of the given diseases is described. Instructions on the preparation for surgery on specific organs and postoperative management are included.

Separate sections deal sequentially with disorders of the nose and the paranasal sinuses, the throat and oesophagus, the larynx, trachea and bronchi, and the ear. A special section is devoted to tumours and their classification (tumours of the respiratory tract, benign tumours, malignant tumours, and tumours of the ear), as well as specific diseases (tuberculosis, scleroma, syphilis).

This book is intended as an introductory course on diseases of the ear, nose, and throat. Knowledge of the essentials of this specialty will also contribute to the formation of clinical thinking in all other medical disciplines.
