Theory Of Automatic Control – Aizerman

In this post, we will see the book Theory Of Automatic Control by M. A. Aizerman.

About the book

This book is based on lectures which the author has given, over the last 10 years and longer, to scientific workers and engineers at a number of local scientific research institutes, design offices and factories in Moscow. His listeners were not specialists in the field of automatic control. They had had much experience of work in other spheres of technology and had mastered only the technology of control. Being convinced of the need to know the theory of automatic control, if only its essentials, in order to design and build controllers, they asked him to select material from the vast amount which has been accumulated in control theory, and to include in the lectures only what was most important for practical applications. In carrying out this request it is quite possible, of course, that the author has made mistakes in his selection of material. He has proceeded from his own experience, and the experience and advice of his listeners, but his opinions, habits and tastes could not but affect the content of the lectures. Only time and experience of practical applications enable us to separate basic ally what is essential from what is secondary. The book is concerned with the theory, and not the technology, of control. The basic introduction to controllers in the first chapter is therefore long enough only for the following chapters to be understood. The reader is expected to be familiar with the theory of the Laplace and Fourier transform. It is explained in Appendix 1 sufficiently for the reader who is not familiar with it to understand the book. Examples and some minor explanations have been put in small print, and may be omitted at a first reading.

The book was published in 1963.
